MSc-M2: Heatwaves and thermal tolerance limits of river fish

We offer a Master thesis (M2) to characterise how often, and where, heatwaves have pushed river fish beyond their thermal tolerance limits over recent decades (1976–2025), and how these exceedances may change during the 21st century at the global scale. The work will combine global water temperature data (FutureStreams), fish occurrence data from 11,072 river sites (RivFishTIME) and recently published thermal tolerance limits of 298 freshwater fish species, using statistical analyses and mapping in R.

The project will be based at ISEM (Montpellier), in the BioDicée team, for 5.5–6 months from January 2027 (dates adaptable), supervised by Claire Jacquet and Minya Erre. To apply, send a CV, a cover letter and Master transcripts to claire.jacquet@umontpellier.fr and minya.erre@umontpellier.fr. More details
